SCORCHING RACE 2 FOR SEVENHILLS AT MISANO
After the thrills of the night race, the RS CUP delivers a second heat no less exciting at Misano Adriatico. All the SevenHills drivers are on the grid, including Max Ciocca, whose car was repaired overnight. The start is frantic and the cars of Rizzo and Franca run onto the grass on the inside of the main straight, while Bensi collides with a rival and damages his bumper. In these conditions Bonifazi makes an excellent getaway and climbs to fourth, at the expense of Tartabini. The driver from Orvieto even moves into podium position on lap two when Sturla, the first leader, runs wide into the sand at the opening Esse after being touched by Franca. Lancellotti then fights back and “relegates” Bonifazi to fourth ahead of Tartabini and Stefani. Around mid-race, however, Lancellotti and Casciandrini get into a scrap at the Esse and touch. Tartabini catches the two cars and attacks Casciandrini at the Esse, while Stefani passes Bonifazi. Then, with a superb move around the outside, Tartabini takes third from Casciandrini, who also comes under attack from Stefani. After his splendid start, Bonifazi gets into an all-Umbrian duel with Walter Lilli. Uguccioni is tenth in the meantime and Ciocca twelfth after contact with a rival. Leader Franca is given a ten-second penalty for the contact with Sturla and his pursuers push to keep the gap small. Among the naturally aspirated cars, Massaro passes Alunni and closes in on Beltrami, looking for revenge. Lancellotti, with a damaged car, is caught by Tartabini, while Stefani keeps attacking Casciandrini and Bonifazi runs wide and is passed by Lilli. The driver from Perugia then spins several times towards the end, handing the position back to the Orvieto driver. In the closing laps Tartabini pushes Lancellotti, looking for the overtake that would give him the win in light of Franca’s penalty, but the Lombard holds on, crosses the line ahead of him and wins. Tartabini takes second place “on paper”, Stefani is fifth and Bonifazi sixth. Ciocca finishes an excellent eighth and, after a trouble-free race, makes the Top Ten, with credit also due to the teamwork. Right behind him is an excellent Uguccioni. As for Massaro, he makes up for yesterday’s bad luck with second place among the naturally aspirated cars. The next race is the second weekend of July at Varano de’ Melegari, in the province of Parma.
